1) Everything is connected to your calling.

God knew exactly what he was doing when he called you. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We the church are called. God holistically and intricately made every little detail about you from your hair to your finger print. Every finite tiny detail of your life, your persona, your mentality, your physicality everything about you, he masterfully wove together for your calling. The way you smile and laugh, the sound of walk, the space between your eyes…the list goes on and on (why wouldn’t God intricately plan His temple, we are the Holy Spirit’s home on Earth). His plan, His glorious inhuman beyond earth plan involves you. You were called.

2) God is the only one who knows why you were called.

If we start with the belief that there is something wrong with us we will miss everything that God has for us.

How dare we look at ourselves and think “God can’t use this”. How dare we have so much pride as to sit in front of our phones scrolling through pictures thinking, “God will do something great with them, they are perfect”. Has our generation forgotten that the 12 Disciples were indebted fisherman, despised tax collectors, demon stricken women…all of them were dirty hungry souls who longed for something more than this world. God is the only one who knows what we need. He is the only one who sees tomorrow. He is the only one who knows why you are the height, the weight, the skin color, the gender that you are. He is the only one who knows why you were born into that family, that year, that day, month, hour…he knows what we need, because we have been called by Him.

3) Without God, we will never fulfill our calling.

John 15:4-8 states, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples

This verse has stuck with me and ran through my head and heart for weeks now. Over and over again I see the words “…for without me you can do nothing…” It’s so simple, yet so true. We sit in our homes and in our lives thinking that we can control everything. We stress and we fear and we worry over what? Our abilities? Worth? Who cares what LIFE magazine says. Who cares that the Presbyterian Church just voted to not allow celibate christian gays to not lead in a church. Who cares that the Leadership of your church cut out the program you’ve had for years. Who cares? you? All that matters on this planet is not what man does for man, we can’t keep expecting man to give us what only God can give us. Nothing in your life matters, except what you do for God. You were called to lay down your life for your God. You were called to be crucified with Christ. So why do we expect humans, even Christian humans to perform for us. A man cannot do a God sized job. A man cannot give you your calling. You were called by God, so follow Him.

The Christian Church is not perfect. It is a melting pot of broken humans pushed together all being called by the same God for different reasons. We were called, yet we act like we haven’t been drafted into the most important war of all. We act like our lives don’t belong to our Creator. We act like the Bible is a giant rule book we must follow so we can make it to heaven…What if there was more to our existence than just making it to Heaven? Why isn’t the church a flame that lights the world wherever we go. Have we not answered the call? Have we left God on hold? We are called, we just have to pick up.
